Making art that speaks to your heart

Art

There’s a special kind of magic that happens when we create—just for the pure joy of it.

Lately, I’ve noticed that my inner artist gets a little down when I focus too much on turning my art into something that has to make money or fit a certain image. It’s a shift many of us experience: we start out playing, exploring, and falling in love with the process, only to find ourselves tangled up in questions about value, worth, and how to “make it” as an artist.

But that’s not why art came into my life.

The creative fire within me doesn’t exist so I can worry about spreadsheets or marketing strategies. Art came to light up my life—to dance and sing and create with and through me. She chose me as a co-conspirator, inviting me to explore, experiment, and delight in new creative discoveries together.

That’s why my Facebook and Instagram feeds look more like art journals than curated glamour shots. Some weeks, I’m immersed in a series, refining and exploring a theme. Other times, I take a break to experiment and play, simply following what feels right for my inner artist in the moment. This flexibility keeps the creative spark alive and reminds me to stay true to the process, not just the product.

Balancing the dream with the joy of the journey is an ongoing process. I’m frequently course correcting by reminding myself what truly matters: the calling to create, the process itself—art making for art’s sake. When I let myself get lost in the creative flow, playing and exploring without pressure, I realize I’m already living my dream: I am an artist and I’m making the art that speaks to my heart.
