Art Up Front Street, 120 Front St., Exeter, NH
$125 per person — canvas and all art supplies included
From playful chaos to a powerful presence…
What happens when you begin a painting with no plan, lots of color, and full permission to play? Something unexpected—and alive—emerges.
In this fun-filled, full-day workshop, we’ll start by creating a mixed-media playground using acrylic paint, collage, marks, stencils, pastels, and intuitive experimentation. Think layers, movement, bold color, and curiosity leading the way. No pressure. No perfection. Just play.
Once your surface is rich with energy and texture, I’ll guide you step-by-step in using negative space painting, simple outlining, and facial details to reveal a colorful spirit animal within the abstract layers. Your animal will gradually come into focus—unique, expressive, and entirely your own.
This approach is designed to help you loosen up, trust your intuition, and experience how freely painting first can lead to more powerful, soulful results. The process can be applied to any subject you choose in the future.
What You’ll Experience
Painting freely and intuitively without a plan
Getting more comfortable and confident with color
Building depth through layering and mixed media
Working with acrylic paint, markers, pastels, collage, stamps, stencils, and mark-making tools
Learning an easy outlining and glazing technique to bring your animal to life
Creating a one-of-a-kind spirit animal painting to take home
Who This Workshop Is For
This workshop is open to beginners and experienced artists alike. No prior painting experience is required—just a willingness to experiment, play, and trust the process.
What to Bring
All art materials are provided, so you can simply show up ready to create. Please bring an apron or wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy, as things can get wonderfully painty. You’ll also want to bring a bag lunch or something to eat during our 45-minute mid-day break. A microwave and refrigerator are available on-site for your convenience. Enna’s Chocolate is a short walk for pastry, espresso, chia, etc.
