Wild & Whimsical Birch Trees - March 21, 2026
Saturday, March 21, 2026
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Art Up Front Street, 120 Front Street, Exeter, NH
$75 per person, includes canvas and art supplies
From playful chaos to a magical forest…
What happens when you start a painting with no plan, lots of texture, and permission to play?
You end up somewhere surprising—and beautiful.
In this half-day workshop, we’ll begin by creating a mixed-media playground using acrylic paint, stencils, markers, scraping tools, and whatever else feels fun in the moment. Think layers, marks, happy accidents, and curiosity leading the way. No pressure. No perfection. Just play.
Once the surface is alive with color and texture, I’ll guide you step-by-step in transforming that abstract playground into a unique birch tree painting—one that could never be replicated and feels completely yours.
What You’ll Do
Create a lively mixed-media base filled with color, texture, and expressive marks
Explore playful, low-pressure techniques that encourage experimentation
Learn four different approaches to painting birch trees:
Painting birches with an old business or credit card
Reserving tree shapes using blue painter’s tape
Using a palette knife for expressive, textured trunks
Painting trees in by hand for a more organic feel
Mix and match techniques—or focus on just one—there’s no “right way,” only your way

You love loose, expressive painting
You enjoy mixed media and experimentation
