Gelli Plate Trivet Painting - April 11, 2026
Saturday, April 11, 2026
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Art Up Front Street, 120 Front Street, Exeter, NH
$125 per person, includes trivets, papers and all art supplies
From playful prints to art you’ll use every day.
Discover the joy of turning playful experimentation into something beautifully functional. In this hands-on, full-day workshop, you’ll explore gelli plate printing and transform your favorite hand painted prints into a set of unique, artful cold plate trivets—perfect for your own home or as heartfelt handmade gifts.
What You’ll Do
We’ll begin with an inviting, low-pressure exploration of the gelli plate. You’ll learn how to build layers, create rich textures, and work intuitively using acrylic paint, stencils, marks, and simple tools. No two prints will be alike—and that’s exactly the point. Once you’ve created a collection of prints you love, we’ll shift into selecting, refining, and finishing them as durable, eye-catching cold plate trivets.
Who This Workshop Is For
This workshop is perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike. No prior printmaking experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to play. If you love color, texture, and making art that’s both expressive and useful, this day is for you.
What You’ll Learn
How to use a gelli plate, brayer, and acrylic paint with confidence
Techniques for layering, texture-building, and mark-making
How to recognize and choose strong prints
How to transform prints into finished, functional trivets
Tips for embracing imperfection and creative momentum
What’s Included
All materials are provided:
Gelli plates & brayers
Acrylic paints & mark-making tools
Papers and surfaces
Trivet bases & finishing supplies
What to Bring
All art materials are provided, so you can simply show up ready to create. Please bring an apron or wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy, as things can get wonderfully painty. You’ll also want to bring a bag lunch or something to eat during our 45-minute mid-day break. A microwave and refrigerator are available on-site for your convenience. Enna’s Chocolate is a short walk for pastry, espresso, chia, etc.
You’ll Leave With
A collection of original gelli plate prints
Multiple completed, ready-to-use art trivets
New skills you can easily repeat at home
A fresh sense of creative confidence and play
Important Note About the Trivets:
We are making trivets that are safe for warm mugs, teapots, and serving dishes—not hot pans.
Your Guides
Natalie Marquis is an intuitive energy healer and mixed media painter inspired by the natural world and the sense of quiet magic it evokes. Her expressive wildlife, floral, and landscape paintings reflect how nature feels—alive, playful, and deeply nourishing—through rich color and whimsy. She is the author of The Kachina Women and a creator of guided meditations with over 100,000 listeners on the Insight Timer app. Explore her offerings at NatalieMarquis.com.
Deb Hastings is a NH artist with more than 30 years experience as an art teacher in the public schools. She has a love for taking the “old” and infusing it with new life. It is this interest in renewable art that lead her to create earrings out of cookie tins and embellished leather goods sourced from thrift stores. Find her work @the_artists_eye_designs.
