Devotion vs Discipline

Art

The reason I show up to paint almost every day is not because I’m a highly disciplined person.

Trust me — I am not.

It’s because I love painting and enjoy spending time with it.

Which made me think…What if creativity is less about discipline and more about devotion.

Discipline implies force.
Devotion implies care and desire.

The second reflection in the Threshold series explores this idea — and how creativity becomes easier when we approach it as a relationship rather than a task.

What if creativity isn’t something you have to force? What if it’s something you care for. Something you return to the way you would return to a garden, or a friendship.

This reflection explores the idea that creative work grows through attention, affection, and devotion.

Not pressure. Not perfection.
Just the quiet act of showing up again — for something you love.
